I co-created this tool with my colleague, Alan Briskin, to explain how the intelligences produced by the brain’s two hemispheres complement each other. While from a neuroscientific perspective it’s not as cut-and-dry as this chart may imply, the image presents two different but equally important modes of thinking. Collectively and individually we become exponentially smarter when the creative, social, big-picture right mode partners with the analytical, logical, organized left mode.
By heightening our awareness and appreciation of these different modes of thinking, we enhance the likelihood of activating and accessing our untapped potential. For instance, we might realize our tendency to be a linear and convergent thinker who excels at getting things executed but who might benefit from integrating a lateral and divergent orientation to increase our innovativeness. Once this is noticed we can better leverage our dominant intelligence while engaging in strategies to awaken our dormant intelligence.
Excerpt: "LEFT BRAIN: Temporal Time – Keeps track of time.
Ability to distinguish past from present and
present from future. Sometimes referred to
as Chronos time. Plans and schedules. RIGHT BRAIN: Timeless – Loses track of time. Ability to be
fully in the present moment. Sometimes
referred to as Kairos time. Improvises. Flows."
